NOTE: Unlike most Window's applications, Telaric Ideas' patent software tools are extensions to Microsoft Word (Word Macros). As such, they are installed differently. Installation is easy - but because you're probably not familiar with the installation of macro files, we recommend you follow these instructions carefully. Please print out these instructions so you can refer to them during installation.
The macros that extend Word's functionality are contained inside the file(s) you received from us (Telaric Examiner.doc) Before you can use these macros, you must save them as Word templates. You may then use the templates to create new blank documents in which you do your patent work. The templates will automatically copy the macros into your new documents.
Like Window's applications, macros can convey viruses into your computer. For this reason, Microsoft Office applications provide macro security settings that allow you to place restrictions on the use of macros in Office documents. If you have not used macros in your work to date, there is a good chance those restrictions will prevent the installation of our tools. So, before you attempt to install the macros, you must make sure MS-Word will allow it. After the macros are saved as a template file, you may return Word's macro security setting to the desired level without affecting subsequent use of the macros.
Also, some virus scanning programs may block installation of MS-Office macros. If your installation does not result in a new toolbar being visible in MS-Word, turn off your virus protection program temporarily and try the installation procedure again. Remember to turn the virus protection software on again immediately after installation is complete.
Step 1: Set the Word macro security setting to Medium
There are two options for changing the macro setting. The first step, for either option, is to open a new document within Word. Once you have Word open, then follow these instructions.
Option 1.
- On the Tools menu, click Macro
- Click Security...
- Click the Security Level tab
- Select the Medium security level (remember the current security level if you want to restore it after installation)
Option 2.
- Open the Tools menu, click Options
- Click the Security tab
- Under Macro security (bottom), click Macro Security...
- Click the Security Level tab
- Select the Medium security level (remember the current security level if you want to restore it after installation)
Step 2: Install the Telaric software macros into Word
- Start with the Word document that you downloaded from our software download page or that you received as an attachment to our email to you.
- Open the Word document (Telaric Examiner.doc). Double click on the Word icon and, if an Opening Mail Attachment dialog box appears, click Open
- Word will present a Security Warning dialog box. Click Enable Macros
- Follow the on screen instructions and, if you’ve purchased the product, enter the registration codes we’ve emailed to you.
Step: 3: Save the Telaric document as a template
Before you start using the Telaric software, the document that is open must be saved as a Word template. A dialog box will appear to remind you of this.
- Read and close the reminder dialog box
- On the File menu, click Save As...
- Find Save as type: at the bottom of the dialog box
- Scroll drop down list and select Document Template
- Leave the File name: as is
- Click Save. Word will save the template in your Word default template folder
- Close the document (Click X or on the File menu, click Close)
If a dialog box appears asking if you want to save changes, you may select either Yes or No since no changes were actually made to the document. (This warning may occur during normal operation of the macros as well, it does not matter whether you select Yes or No in response to the question.)
Step 4: Restore the Word macro security setting to original level
You may leave Word's macro security setting at Medium if you wish or you may return it to it's original level by following the instructions in Step 1. Also, if you needed to turn off your virus scanning/blocking software in order to install the Telaric software, remember to turn it back on!
That's it!
The macros are now safely stored in a template file (Telaric Examiner.dot).

- On the File menu, click New
- Word will present a window containing a list of available templates to create a new document (Note: this list is presented differently in the various versions of Word). Open Telaric Examiner (double click on the icon or select the template and click OK). A new blank document with the Telaric software toolbar will be created.
- Follow the directions in the "Getting Started Guide" to use the software.
- 5. Before using the software, you should read our “Rationale for Use Guide”.
